Overview

409 is a low-alloy ferritic stainless engineered for oxidation resistance, fabrication, and cost-sensitive exhaust applications. It can develop visible surface rust in wet atmospheric exposure while continuing to provide useful service, so it is not selected where a bright decorative appearance is mandatory.

  • A stabilized ferritic sheet grade is established by the component specification.

  • Decorative appearance or coastal architectural exposure is required.
