316L Stainless Steel Angle

Procurement guide for 316L stainless angle in corrosion-sensitive frames and supports, covering manufacturing route, geometry, finish, weld cleaning, inspection and documentation.

03Grade-product

Specifications and dimensions

  • State equal or unequal legs, leg dimensions × thickness, root radius, length and mass/section tolerance.
  • Define hot-rolled, laser-welded, bent or fabricated route; these products can have different corner geometry and properties.
  • Specify straightness, twist, squareness, cut length, end preparation, surface finish and hole pattern where required.

Standards and supply condition

  • ASTM A276/A276M for applicable stainless bars and shapes
  • ASTM A484/A484M general requirements or the ordered formed/fabricated specification

Manufacturing and processing

  • Angles may be hot rolled, cold formed from strip, laser welded or fabricated; the route must match the ordered standard and design basis.
  • Cutting, drilling, welding, pickling/passivation and finishing are coordinated with connection drawings and corrosion requirements.

Typical applications

  • Equipment frames, platforms, brackets and supports
  • Architectural trim, façade and interior framing
  • Food, chemical and marine fabrication after design review

Quality and acceptance controls

  • Verify grade, product route, heat treatment, chemistry and mechanical results against the ordered standard.
  • Measure legs, thickness, angle, root radius, straightness, twist, length and mass.
  • Inspect surface, edge cracking, welds where applicable, cut ends and hole position against drawings.
  • Confirm heat/lot traceability through cutting and fabrication, plus clean packing to prevent iron contamination.

Include in your RFQ

  • Exact grade or alloy designation and governing product-standard edition
  • Product form, manufacturing route and ordered delivery condition or temper
  • Nominal dimensions, tolerances, length/coil geometry and quantity
  • Surface finish, edge/end condition, straightness/flatness and permitted defects
  • Fabrication, forming, machining, welding and heat-treatment requirements
  • Mechanical, corrosion, coating or application-specific acceptance tests
  • Inspection document, heat/lot traceability, marking and third-party inspection
  • Packing, preservation, destination, Incoterms and required delivery date

Selection limits

  • 316L designation does not define bar/strip/angle dimensions, condition, finish, tolerance or acceptance; the product standard and order do.
  • 316L selection does not replace structural design, weld qualification, crevice control or chloride-environment review.
