5052 and 6061 are not general substitutes. 5052 is a non-heat-treatable 5xxx-series alloy often used in sheet applications needing formability and corrosion resistance, while 6061 is a heat-treatable 6xxx-series alloy widely used where balanced strength and fabrication are required.
