5052 Aluminum Coil

Procurement guide for 5052 aluminum coil covering full temper, gauge, width, coil geometry, surface, forming, corrosion context, inspection and protective packing.

03Grade-product

Specifications and dimensions

  • State alloy, complete temper, thickness, width and applicable tolerance table for the ordered thickness range.
  • Define coil ID/OD, maximum mass, winding direction, telescoping, camber, flatness and edge condition.
  • Specify mill, brushed, anodizing-quality or coated surface; protective film/interleaving and grain direction where relevant.

Standards and supply condition

  • ASTM B209/B209M for applicable aluminum-alloy sheet supplied in coils
  • Aluminum Association alloy and temper designation framework

Manufacturing and processing

  • Slab is homogenized, hot rolled and cold rolled before annealing or strain hardening to the ordered temper.
  • Slitting, trimming, leveling, cleaning, surface treatment, film application and controlled winding complete the coil order.

Typical applications

  • Marine and transport sheet-metal fabrication after design review
  • Enclosures, HVAC, appliance and general formed components
  • Architectural and corrosion-resistant sheet applications

Quality and acceptance controls

  • Verify registered alloy, full temper, cast/coil identity and mechanical results against the certificate.
  • Measure thickness profile, width, camber and flatness using the ordered product-standard method.
  • Inspect water stain, oxide, scratches, roll marks, edge damage, telescoping and winding quality.
  • Validate forming, paint/adhesive, anodizing or welding compatibility on representative material when critical.

Include in your RFQ

  • Exact grade or alloy designation and governing product-standard edition
  • Product form, manufacturing route and ordered delivery condition or temper
  • Nominal dimensions, tolerances, length/coil geometry and quantity
  • Surface finish, edge/end condition, straightness/flatness and permitted defects
  • Fabrication, forming, machining, welding and heat-treatment requirements
  • Mechanical, corrosion, coating or application-specific acceptance tests
  • Inspection document, heat/lot traceability, marking and third-party inspection
  • Packing, preservation, destination, Incoterms and required delivery date

Selection limits

  • 5052 strength and formability depend on full temper and thickness; H32, H34 and O are not interchangeable.
  • Alloy and temper do not define anodizing appearance, paint adhesion, flatness or surface acceptance.
