Common grades

Specifications and dimensions

  • Thickness in micrometres, width and reel length or mass with applicable tolerances
  • Core inside diameter, maximum outside diameter, winding direction and splice allowance
  • One-side bright or two-side matte presentation, wetting, surface energy, pinhole and cleanliness controls

Standards and supply condition

  • ASTM B479 for annealed aluminum and aluminum-alloy foil for flexible barrier applications where applicable
  • EN 546 series for aluminum and aluminum-alloy foil products

Manufacturing and processing

  • Rolling stock is cold rolled through successive reductions and may be double rolled at final gauge.
  • Annealing, separation, slitting, surface treatment, inspection and clean packing prepare foil for converting.

Typical applications

  • Moisture and oxygen barrier laminates
  • Pharmaceutical and food packaging
  • Cable shielding, insulation and industrial barrier bags

Quality and acceptance controls

  • Verify the registered alloy and complete temper designation against the certificate and ordered product standard.
  • Check dimensions, applicable tolerance table, flatness or straightness, surface class, edge and permitted defects.
  • Control film, interleaving, dryness, contact materials, handling and export packing to prevent staining and damage.

Include in your RFQ

  • Registered alloy and complete temper designation
  • Governing product specification and unit system
  • Dimensions, tolerances, quantity and grain-direction requirement
  • Surface class, finish, film, edge and processing requirement
  • Mechanical, conductivity, ultrasonic or other test and certificate requirements
  • Packing, moisture protection, destination and delivery term

Selection limits

  • Barrier performance belongs to the complete laminate and seal design, not foil thickness alone.
  • Metallized film has a deposited metal layer and is not interchangeable with solid rolled foil.
