Aluminum Pipe

Aluminum pipe includes extruded, seamless drawn and other specification-defined tubular products; buyers must distinguish pipe from precision tube and order alloy, temper, dimensions, route, tolerance, surface and testing.

Common grades

Specifications and dimensions

  • Outside diameter and wall thickness or nominal pipe dimensions under the ordered standard
  • Extruded, seamless drawn or welded route, full temper and dimensional class
  • Length, straightness, ovality, concentricity, end preparation and surface finish

Standards and supply condition

  • ASTM B241/B241M for aluminum-alloy seamless pipe and seamless extruded tube
  • ASTM B210/B210M or EN 754/755 series for applicable drawn or extruded tube products

Manufacturing and processing

  • Billet is homogenized and extruded through a die, then stretched, cut and heat treated to temper.
  • Cold drawing may refine dimensions and surface; aging, straightening, machining and finishing follow the order.

Typical applications

  • Pneumatic, irrigation and mechanical systems
  • Marine structures, railings and lightweight frames
  • Heat transfer, transport and fabricated equipment

Quality and acceptance controls

  • Verify the registered alloy and complete temper designation against the certificate and ordered product standard.
  • Check dimensions, applicable tolerance table, flatness or straightness, surface class, edge and permitted defects.
  • Control film, interleaving, dryness, contact materials, handling and export packing to prevent staining and damage.

Include in your RFQ

  • Registered alloy and complete temper designation
  • Governing product specification and unit system
  • Dimensions, tolerances, quantity and grain-direction requirement
  • Surface class, finish, film, edge and processing requirement
  • Mechanical, conductivity, ultrasonic or other test and certificate requirements
  • Packing, moisture protection, destination and delivery term

Selection limits

  • Pipe and tube naming is controlled by the product standard and dimensional convention, not shape alone.
  • Pressure suitability requires system design, allowable stress, joining and testing review; alloy selection alone is insufficient.
