5083 Aluminum Sheet and Plate

Higher-strength, non-heat-treatable 5083 sheet and plate for welded and marine fabrication; marine H116/H321 orders require the applicable corrosion-performance controls.

03Grade-product

Specifications and dimensions

  • Order thickness, width and length with thickness tolerance, flatness, diagonal and edge requirements.
  • State exact temper, surface condition, grain direction, protective film or interleaving and machining allowance.

Standards and supply condition

  • ASTM B209/B209M for general sheet and plate supply
  • ASTM B928/B928M or applicable classification rules for marine H116/H321 plate when ordered

Manufacturing and processing

  • Rolling, heat treatment or strain hardening establish the ordered temper before leveling and cutting to length.
  • Sawing, shearing, laser or water-jet cutting, forming, machining, welding and anodizing must be matched to alloy and temper.

Typical applications

  • Marine hull and superstructure fabrication
  • Cryogenic, transport and welded storage equipment when engineered
  • High-strength fabricated panels and structures

Quality and acceptance controls

  • Match alloy, exact temper, lot or heat identity, dimensions and ordered product specification to the certificate.
  • Verify thickness or wall tolerance, flatness or straightness, surface class, permitted defects and traceability.
  • Agree mechanical testing, corrosion testing, ultrasonic examination, conductivity or third-party inspection where the service requires it.

Include in your RFQ

  • Exact alloy or grade and governing product specification
  • Product form, dimensions, tolerances and quantity
  • Delivery condition or temper and required surface finish
  • Fabrication route, service environment and design standard
  • Testing, inspection, certificate and traceability requirements
  • Packing, marking, destination and required delivery date

Selection limits

  • Alloy number without the exact temper is incomplete for strength, forming, machining and welding decisions.
  • Published dimensional ranges are procurement guidance, not a stock promise; the mill capability and ordered specification control acceptance.
