ASTM A572 Grade 50 Steel Angle

ASTM A572 Grade 50 steel angle for higher-strength structural work; thickness, section, toughness and fabrication requirements remain project-specific.

03Grade-product

Specifications and dimensions

  • Identify equal or unequal angle by leg widths, thickness, root radius and ordered length.
  • State leg and thickness tolerances, squareness, camber, twist, end condition and hole or cut requirements.

Standards and supply condition

  • ASTM A572/A572M Grade 50 material specification
  • ASTM A6/A6M general requirements for the applicable rolled product

Manufacturing and processing

  • Angles are normally hot rolled; cold-formed or welded angles must be identified because geometry and residual stress differ.
  • Cutting, punching, drilling, galvanizing and fabrication can change edge, hole and distortion acceptance.

Typical applications

  • Bracing, frames and secondary structural members
  • Towers, racks, platforms and equipment supports
  • Connection and edge members in fabricated assemblies

Quality and acceptance controls

  • Match grade, heat number, product form, dimensions and ordered ASTM edition to the mill test report.
  • Verify dimensional tolerances, straightness or flatness, surface condition, marking and traceability under ASTM A6/A6M.
  • Order impact testing, ultrasonic examination, carbon-equivalent reporting or other supplementary requirements when the design requires them.

Include in your RFQ

  • Exact alloy or grade and governing product specification
  • Product form, dimensions, tolerances and quantity
  • Delivery condition or temper and required surface finish
  • Fabrication route, service environment and design standard
  • Testing, inspection, certificate and traceability requirements
  • Packing, marking, destination and required delivery date

Selection limits

  • The grade does not by itself establish structural capacity, notch toughness, weld procedure, corrosion protection or suitability for a specific code.
  • Plate, sheet, bar and structural shape availability and property limits vary with thickness, section and the current product standard.
