Carbon Steel Sheet

Carbon steel sheet is cut-to-length hot-rolled, pickled or cold-rolled flat product ordered by designation, thickness, width, length, flatness, surface, edge and fabrication route.

Common grades

Specifications and dimensions

  • Thickness, width and length with product-specific dimensional tolerances
  • Flatness, camber, squareness and diagonal requirements for cut sheet
  • Mill, slit, sheared, plasma-cut or machined edges and surface condition

Standards and supply condition

  • ASTM A1011/A1011M or A1008/A1008M for sheet products; ASTM A36/A36M with A6/A6M for applicable structural products
  • EN 10025-2 structural products or EN 10130 cold-rolled low-carbon flat products where ordered

Manufacturing and processing

  • Coil is leveled and cut to length, or plate is rolled directly depending on thickness and ordered specification.
  • Pickling, oiling, shot blasting, primer, profiling, drilling and beveling are separate processing requirements.

Typical applications

  • Fabricated frames, enclosures and machinery
  • Building and transport components
  • Tanks, ducts and general sheet-metal work

Quality and acceptance controls

  • Match heat or coil identity, grade, product specification and delivery condition to the material certificate.
  • Check dimensions, tolerances, straightness or flatness, surface condition, marking and permitted repair.
  • Agree mechanical, impact, pressure, NDE or coating tests and third-party witness points before production.

Include in your RFQ

  • Grade and governing product specification
  • Hot-rolled or cold-rolled route and delivery condition
  • Dimensions, tolerances, length or coil geometry and quantity
  • Surface, edge or end preparation and coating requirement
  • Mechanical, impact, pressure, NDE and inspection-document requirements
  • Marking, traceability, packing, destination and delivery term

Selection limits

  • Commercial sheet, structural sheet and pressure-vessel plate have different acceptance requirements.
  • A nominal thickness does not replace the applicable tolerance class and measured-thickness acceptance.
