Color-Coated Steel Products

Color-coated steel combines a steel substrate, metallic coating and factory-applied organic coating system; PPGI, PPGL, cut plate and metal deck require separate control of each layer, geometry and forming duty.

PPGI Steel Coil

PPGI coil is prepainted hot-dip galvanized steel coil ordered by zinc-coated substrate, grade, coating mass, pretreatment, primer, top and back coat, film thickness, color, gloss, dimensions and forming duty.

PPGL Steel Coil

PPGL coil is prepainted aluminum-zinc alloy-coated steel coil specified by substrate grade, Al-Zn coating designation, pretreatment, paint chemistry, film build, color, dimensions, forming and cut-edge requirements.

Color-coated steel plate is prepainted metallic-coated coil supplied as flat or formed cut lengths, with substrate, coating system, thickness, width, length, flatness, color, film protection and fabrication requirements defined.

PPGI Metal Deck

PPGI metal deck is roll-formed prepainted galvanized structural sheet; procurement must connect substrate strength, zinc and paint systems, base-metal thickness, profile geometry, design span, embossment, fastening and fire or composite-slab requirements.

Standards and supply condition

ASTM A755/A755M for applicable prepainted metallic-coated building products
EN 10169 for applicable continuously organic-coated steel flat products

Manufacturing and processing

Metallic-coated coil is cleaned and chemically pretreated before primer, top coat and back coat are roll applied.
Each coating is oven cured, cooled and inspected before recoiling, slitting, profiling or cut-to-length processing.

Quality and acceptance controls

Verify substrate grade, metallic coating and organic coating system as three separate order requirements.
Check dry-film thickness, adhesion, color, gloss, surface appearance, forming performance and back coat.
Agree color tolerance, protective film, cut-edge treatment, coil or bundle packing and dry storage before shipment.

Color standard, gloss and permitted color tolerance
Thickness, width or profile geometry, tolerances and quantity
Forming duty, protective film, tests and inspection document
Packing orientation, dry storage, destination and delivery term

Selection limits

PPGI and PPGL are not interchangeable because metallic substrate, forming and corrosion behavior differ.
A paint name alone does not define primer, film thickness, back coat, color tolerance, warranty or environment suitability.
