Galvanized Steel Pipe

Galvanized steel pipe is a specified seamless or welded base pipe with an ordered zinc coating; buyers must define base standard, route, size, wall, galvanizing method, coating acceptance, ends, testing and intended service.

Specifications and dimensions

NPS and schedule or outside diameter and wall thickness under the base-pipe standard
Random or fixed length, straightness, plain, beveled, threaded, coupled or grooved ends
Galvanizing method, coating mass or thickness, internal coverage, drainage and thread condition

Standards and supply condition

ASTM A53/A53M where zinc-coated pipe is ordered under that specification
EN 10240 for protective internal or external coatings for steel tubes where applicable

Manufacturing and processing

Base pipe is produced by the ordered seamless or welded route, sized, tested and end finished.
Zinc coating is applied under the specified method, followed by drainage, cooling, cleaning, inspection and end restoration.

Fire-protection and utility piping under the approved system specification
Fencing, handrails, greenhouse and structural fabrication

Quality and acceptance controls

Verify the base steel or base pipe specification separately from the zinc-coating requirement.
Confirm coating method, designation or mass, adhesion, surface treatment, dimensions and visual acceptance.
Inspect cut edges, ends, threads, passivation, storage condition, wet-storage protection and bundle or coil packing.

Galvanizing method and coating designation, mass or thickness
Dimensions, tolerances, length or coil geometry and quantity
Spangle, passivation, oiling, anti-fingerprint, end or thread requirement
Testing, inspection document, marking and traceability
Dry packing, wet-storage protection, destination and delivery term

Selection limits

Galvanized pipe is not automatically suitable for every drinking-water, high-temperature, chemical or welded service.
Field welding damages zinc locally and requires approved ventilation, weld procedure and coating repair.
