Galvanized steel products combine a specified steel substrate or pipe with a defined zinc-coating process and acceptance requirement; coil and pipe must be ordered under their own product and coating standards.

Galvanized Steel Pipe

Galvanized steel pipe is a specified seamless or welded base pipe with an ordered zinc coating; buyers must define base standard, route, size, wall, galvanizing method, coating acceptance, ends, testing and intended service.

Galvanized Steel Coil

Galvanized steel coil is continuously zinc- or zinc-iron-coated sheet ordered by substrate designation, coating mass, thickness, width, surface treatment, spangle, coil geometry, forming duty and storage protection.

Specifications and dimensions

Continuous galvanized flat products supplied as master or slit coil
Zinc-coated pipe supplied by base-pipe size, wall, length and end configuration
Coating designation, method, surface treatment and storage protection are mandatory order fields

Standards and supply condition

ASTM A653/A653M or EN 10346 for continuous galvanized steel sheet
Base-pipe specification plus its applicable zinc-coating requirement for galvanized pipe

Manufacturing and processing

Coil substrate is cleaned, annealed and continuously hot-dip coated before skin pass and surface treatment.
Pipe may be zinc coated under the pipe specification or galvanized after fabrication, depending on the ordered system.

Water, mechanical and fire-protection piping where permitted
General fabrication, agriculture and infrastructure

Quality and acceptance controls

Verify the base steel or base pipe specification separately from the zinc-coating requirement.
Confirm coating method, designation or mass, adhesion, surface treatment, dimensions and visual acceptance.
Inspect cut edges, ends, threads, passivation, storage condition, wet-storage protection and bundle or coil packing.

Galvanizing method and coating designation, mass or thickness
Dimensions, tolerances, length or coil geometry and quantity
Spangle, passivation, oiling, anti-fingerprint, end or thread requirement
Testing, inspection document, marking and traceability
Dry packing, wet-storage protection, destination and delivery term

Selection limits

Continuous sheet galvanizing and batch galvanizing of fabricated steel use different standards and coating controls.
Zinc coating delays corrosion but does not eliminate cut-edge, wet-storage, chemical or service-environment risks.
