Overview
SAE 1010 is a SAE J403 chemistry designation, not a complete cold-rolled product specification. For coil or sheet procurement, the ordered product specification, quality/formability designation, thickness, width, surface, tolerances, delivery condition and certified heat data govern acceptance.
This page separates standard-oriented limits from typical reference data. Purchase acceptance comes from the ordered specification and certified material test report.

Corrosion behavior
Uncoated low-carbon sheet can rust in humid storage or service and needs suitable protection.
Coating compatibility, cut edges and formed areas require separate review.
Temperature, concentration, deposits, crevices, stress, surface finish, cleaning, and fabrication quality can change service performance.

Heat treatment & condition
Cold-rolled sheet is normally annealed after cold reduction; delivery processing and any subsequent heat cycle must be stated.
The SAE chemistry label does not identify annealed, full-hard, skin-passed or formed condition.

Cold rolling, annealing, skin pass, surface condition and coil geometry influence forming behavior.
Welding and coating performance require the approved process and substrate condition.
