Carbon & Structural Steel

Carbon and structural steels cover chemistry-based SAE grades, strength-based structural specifications and application-specific plate or pipe standards. A familiar name such as mild steel, A36, AH36 or X65 describes only part of the purchase requirement; product form, condition, toughness and governing standard complete the identity.

Classification basis

This commercial family combines carbon-content classes with product/application specifications; every page identifies which classification basis is being used.

Separate general carbon grades from structural, pressure-vessel, shipbuilding and pipeline specifications before comparing strength or price.

A familiar grade name never replaces the governing product specification and certified documentation.
