Standards and supply condition
- ASTM A53/A53M-24 for Type E or Type S Grade B pipe
- ASME B36.10M dimensions and the governing piping/project code where specified
Manufacturing and processing
- Type E is electric-resistance welded; Type S is seamless. The manufacturing type must appear in the order and marking.
- Black finishing, hot-dip zinc coating, threading, coupling, beveling or grooving are ordered as applicable.

- Steam, water, gas and air lines within code scope
- Mechanical and pressure applications
- General utility and ordinary-service piping
Quality and acceptance controls
- Match grade, manufacturing type, heat or lot, dimensions and ordered edition to the MTR and marking.
- Verify hydrostatic or permitted nondestructive electric testing and any project NDE.
- Inspect wall, ovality, straightness, ends, surface, coating where applicable, marking and export protection.
Include in your RFQ
- Exact designation and governing product-standard edition
- Product form, dimensions, tolerances and quantity
- Delivery condition, temper, coating or surface treatment
- Service environment, fabrication route and applicable design code
- Testing, inspection, certificate and traceability requirements
- Packing, marking, destination and required delivery date
Selection limits
- A pipe grade does not define design pressure, allowable stress, corrosion allowance, joining procedure or code acceptance.
- A53 Grade B, A106 Grade B and API 5L Grade B are distinct product specifications and are not automatic substitutes.
