Terminology

Define the physical product before comparing offers

A grade names the material; a product specification controls the supplied form, dimensions, condition, tolerances, testing, and acceptance. Similar names do not make sheet and plate, or pipe and tube, interchangeable.

Commercial definition

Forms and dimensions

01

Hot-dip zinc-coated master coil or slit coil

02

Thickness and width stated as coated product, with coating mass designated separately

03

Coil inside diameter, outside diameter, mass, winding, and edge condition matched to the processing line

Standards and manufacturing route

Common product standards

  • ASTM A653/A653M
  • EN 10346

Manufacturing and finishing

  • Cold-rolled or hot-rolled substrate is cleaned, annealed, and continuously hot-dip coated
  • Air knives regulate coating mass before cooling and skin passing
  • Spangle, passivation, oiling, anti-fingerprint treatment, and protective film are ordered surface options

Acceptance controls

Quality and inspection

01

Review the material test report against the ordered grade and product specification.

02

Confirm dimensions, tolerances, mass, surface condition, and permitted repair.

03

Verify heat or coil traceability, marking, and required inspection records.

04

Agree export packing, preservation, third-party inspection, and document language.

05

Confirm substrate grade, coating designation on both surfaces, adhesion, spangle, passivation, oiling, and storage protection.

Use contexts

Common applications

  • Roofing, cladding, and light-gauge framing
  • HVAC duct and appliance components
  • Automotive and transport parts
  • General roll forming and fabrication
