Overview
ASTM A312/A312M covers seamless, straight-seam welded and heavily cold worked welded austenitic stainless steel pipe for high-temperature and general corrosive service. The specification is only one layer of the order: grade, manufacturing route, pipe dimensions, heat treatment, examination and service requirements remain essential.
Designation and acceptance
ASTM A312/A312M-25 is a pipe product specification, not a generic stainless tube label. It recognizes several manufacturing routes and grade families, and works with ASTM A999/A999M general pipe requirements. NPS and schedule or specified wall define nominal dimensions, while the grade and TP designation identify material requirements; neither alone defines the finished order.

- Confirm heat treatment after forming and welding in the supplied product, then protect the surface during cutting and fabrication.
- Qualify welding consumables and procedures for the exact grade, wall, service and governing piping code.
- Specify pickling, passivation or cleanliness only through explicit project requirements; the alloy label does not guarantee final fabricated cleanliness.
