Zinc Sheet and Strip
Zinc sheet and strip are solid zinc-alloy rolled products for roofing, façade, battery and formed applications; they are not galvanized steel, whose steel substrate and coating mass govern a different product system.
01
Definition and boundary
Includes solid rolled zinc products; explicitly excludes zinc-coated or zinc-aluminum-coated steel sheet.
Reference information only: final acceptance is controlled by the ordered product specification, condition, dimensions and certified test results.
02
How the material system works
Rolled texture affects bending.
Copper/titanium improve creep and strength.
Atmospheric exposure develops protective patina.
03
Representative grades and systems
| Grade or system | Selection focus | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Architectural Zn-Cu-Ti | Rolled roofing/façade alloy family. | Confirm the governing product specification, delivery condition, section size and acceptance tests before treating designations as interchangeable. |
| Battery-grade zinc strip | Chemistry-led electrochemical strip. | Confirm the governing product specification, delivery condition, section size and acceptance tests before treating designations as interchangeable. |
| High-purity zinc sheet | Forming or laboratory product requiring purity definition. | Confirm the governing product specification, delivery condition, section size and acceptance tests before treating designations as interchangeable. |

Applications and selection
Applications and selection
- Roofing and façades
- Battery cans/components
- Flashings and formed sheet
Properties and trade-offs
- Set alloy around forming and climate.
- Allow thermal movement.
- Separate solid zinc from coated steel.
07
Fabrication, durability and inspection
Observe minimum forming temperature.
Use compatible solder/joining systems.
Avoid backside condensation traps.
08
Procurement checklist
- State solid zinc alloy and rolled-product specification.
- Define thickness, width, temper and surface.
- Specify flatness, bend direction, finish and protective packaging.
09
Standards, sources and review
Standards and designation context
- Applicable ASTM zinc product specification
- Buyer drawing and service requirements
- Agreed inspection and certificate plan
