Zinc Sheet and Strip

Zinc sheet and strip are solid zinc-alloy rolled products for roofing, façade, battery and formed applications; they are not galvanized steel, whose steel substrate and coating mass govern a different product system.

01

Definition and boundary

Includes solid rolled zinc products; explicitly excludes zinc-coated or zinc-aluminum-coated steel sheet.

Reference information only: final acceptance is controlled by the ordered product specification, condition, dimensions and certified test results.

02

How the material system works

01

Rolled texture affects bending.

02

Copper/titanium improve creep and strength.

03

Atmospheric exposure develops protective patina.

Applications and selection

Applications and selection

  • Roofing and façades
  • Battery cans/components
  • Flashings and formed sheet

Properties and trade-offs

  • Set alloy around forming and climate.
  • Allow thermal movement.
  • Separate solid zinc from coated steel.

07

Fabrication, durability and inspection

01

Observe minimum forming temperature.

02

Use compatible solder/joining systems.

03

Avoid backside condensation traps.

08

Procurement checklist

  • State solid zinc alloy and rolled-product specification.
  • Define thickness, width, temper and surface.
  • Specify flatness, bend direction, finish and protective packaging.
Discuss a material requirement
