03Grade-product

Specifications and dimensions

  • State ordered thickness, width, thickness/width tolerance, edge condition, coil inside diameter, maximum outside diameter and maximum coil mass.
  • State full-hard, annealed, temper-rolled or other ordered condition; do not use the SAE chemistry designation alone as the condition.

Standards and supply condition

  • SAE J403 chemical-composition designation for SAE carbon steels
  • ASTM A1008/A1008M cold-rolled steel sheet; the ordered edition and grade/type govern finished-product acceptance

Manufacturing and processing

  • Cold-reduced sheet is processed from suitable hot band through rolling, annealing and temper rolling or other finishing as specified by the ordered product standard.
  • Slitting, edge conditioning, leveling, oiling, protective wrapping and coil geometry are separately ordered processing and packaging controls.

Typical applications

  • General formed sheet components where the ordered product specification supports the fabrication requirement
  • Fabricated panels, enclosures and controlled blanking where the ordered condition is confirmed
  • Welded tube or roll-formed components only after the material and process are qualified

Quality and acceptance controls

  • Match the coil number, chemistry designation, ordered ASTM A1008/A1008M grade or type, condition, dimensions and test results to the certificate.
  • Inspect thickness profile, width, edge, flatness, surface quality, rust preventive oil where ordered, coil winding, marking and moisture-protected export packing.
  • Agree mechanical tests, formability or drawability tests, surface class and sampling only through the ordered finished-product specification.

  • Exact designation and governing product-standard edition
  • Product form, dimensions, tolerances and quantity
  • Delivery condition, temper, coating or surface treatment
  • Service environment, fabrication route and applicable design code
  • Testing, inspection, certificate and traceability requirements
  • Packing, marking, destination and required delivery date

Selection limits

  • SAE 1008 and SAE 1010 are chemistry designations; they do not by themselves establish tensile properties, formability, surface class, tolerances or acceptance.
  • ASTM A1008/A1008M covers cold-rolled steel sheet in coils and cut lengths; confirm the ordered product-standard edition and applicable grade/type before purchase or substitution.
